Uva Bar Anaheim, Downtown Disney

Uva Bar website

I recently visited the Uva Bar at the Downtown Disney district in Anaheim. This is one of the four restaurants at Downtown Disney that is owned by the Patina group.

The Uva Bar sits in the middle of a small fenced in area on the main walkway of Downtown Disney. It's a fun place to stop in for a quick meal or drink and watch the people go by. The Uva bar is the "bar" of Catal, the restaurant situated just above the Uva bar. They share the same kitchen, but have different menus. The Uva bar has a more casual menu than Catal.

After looking over them menu several times, I finally settled on the rotisserie chicken ($18.00). The chicken was a full half of a chicken and came served with french fries. The fries were delicious, the chicken, not so much. The fries were fresh, hot and crispy. They were perfectly seasoned with salt and a little bit of fresh parsley. The chicken was ok, but the breast was so dry that it choked me. I didn't even have any water to wash it down because the server was slow at refilling our drinks. I've eaten chicken many times, but I've never experienced so many bone shards while eating before. It seemed like my chicken was a virtual minefield of bones just waiting to chip my tooth. I don't know if it's the way the kitchen carved the chicken or what, but my chicken seemd to have more bone shards, than meat. For $18, I would have much rather had a family meal from Boston Market.

Other food items that my party ordered included the Uva burger ($14.50), the melted chicken BLT sandwich ($14.50, not pictured), the warm turkey and brie on sourdough ($13.50), and the pizza margherita ($13.75). No one felt that their food was especially spectacular.

Overall, the food was decent, but I felt it was overpriced for what it was. The service here doesn't seem to be very good. We didn't receive our drinks until around 20 minutes after we were seated. The waiter got one of the orders wrong, (he brought a pizza instead of a sandwich) but didn't seem to be too apologetic over it. Uva bar used to be one of my favorite places to go when it first opened. Over the years though, it seems to have gone downhill. I like it less and less every time I go.

I think the brie sandwich is pretty good, but I love brie.
